Multisensory math is based on the Orion-Gillingham method of teaching. It applies the research based Concrete-Representational-Abstract approach to teaching mathematics. The methods in this approach are designed to help struggling students impacted by language disabilities, attention and executive functioning issues and gaps in learning. Hands-on work with manipulative objects is recommended for all students at all ages. It enhances both concept integration and memory. This approach is especially important for LD students and those with conceptual gaps. It is, however, an approach which is appropriate for all students.
